Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School
LEAP to success at Lee!
Welcome from the Governors of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School
Please find below details of how our governing body is structured, what our roles and responsibilities are and the names and terms of appointment for each Governor.
The governing body of the school works with the Headteacher to ensure that all children are given the best opportunities while in our school. The governors work to ensure there is strategic leadership, robust accountability and good oversight of the school’s educational and financial performance.
Governors visit the school regularly, examine progress and attainment data, review the school budget and make sure the school is working towards its current objectives in the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
The full governing body (FGB) meet at least twice per term. Responsibility for specific areas is delegated to committees or individual governors. Governor committees include Headteacher Performance Management, Pay Committee, Resources Committee and Curriculum Committee.
Governors are recruited from the parents of children in our school, and from the wider community. We aim to have a broad range of expertise, skills, and experience among the governing body, so that together we can support and challenge the school. Governors attend training to up to date with current legislation around governance.
The role of the governors is strictly strategic, and the day-to-day management of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher and the school’s Senior Leadership Team. However, the governors are keen to be involved in the life of the school and are often in attendance at school events.
If you are interested in investing in your child’s education by joining the governors, the Chair of Governors would be glad to speak with you about the role in greater depth. You can contact the Chair via the school office.
We would also encourage you to support the school and your children’s education in other ways. Attending events or becoming involved with FLINS (Friends of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School) will help to model being Part of the Community, one of our LEAP Values.
Diversity statement
The governors believe it is important that boards reflect the diversity of the school communities they serve. Diverse boards promote inclusive school environments and provide diverse role models for staff and young people.
Due to our relatively small governing board, we will not publish this diversity data online as individual governors could be identified and we have a legal obligation to protect their personal data.
Paul Chamberlain
Chair of Governors
I’m Paul Chamberlain, the local vicar. I’m the Chair of Governors at the Infant School, and an Associate Governor at the Junior School! I’m on both governing bodies as part of a plan to help the schools work more closely together, part of which has a governor from each school being an Associate Governor at the other. I’ve been a school governor in Lee for over four years. I’m a governor because I want the children of our town to have the best education they can, and governors play an important role in helping our schools make this happen.
Wayne Veck
Vice Chair of Governors
Co-opted Governor
Hello, I’m Wayne Veck. I became a governor during the summer of 2021 with the aim of supporting the school in providing an outstanding education for the children of Lee-on-the-Solent. I am particularly interested in promoting the education and wellbeing of children with disabilities, drawing on my professional experiences of teaching and researching in special education and inclusion and in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winchester.
Jo Drew
Local Authority Governor
I am Jo Drew. I moved into the area in 2017 after living in London for 40 years. I have been a Governor since March 2018 and I am a member of the Resources and Pay Committees. I think that a good education gives children the best start in life and that school governors have a vital role to play in that education.
Jane Read
Co-opted Governor
Hi! I’m Jane – I am a grandmother whose three children all attended the Lee schools in the past.
Since June 2021 I worked as Clerk to Governors of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School.
As time went on I felt that I would prefer to switch my role and help the school and community from a voluntary and more hands-on perspective. I have lived in both Lee-on-Solent and Stubbington for
over 40 years during which time I worked for several local businesses; now that I am retired I have
the opportunity to come into school and carry out my duties as a Governor. It is a privilege to be
part of the team and supporting the next generation as they grow.
Shorny Malcomson
Co-Opted Governor
My eldest has attended Lee-on-the-Solent Infant School and my youngest will hopefully begin her journey there soon. My background is in secondary and post-16 teaching, and I now work for a national organisation supporting thousands of school leaders in primary, secondary and post-16 sectors across the country and in others too. I believe that every child deserves the best quality education, to feel safe and secure, and should have doors open to expose them to numerous opportunities to explore the world around them. I became a governor as I feel the school's ethos is very much in line with this belief and I wish to support them in the incredible work they do for our community and young children
Jane Gilbert
Co-Opted Governor
I am a parent to two children at the school. I am a clinical psychologist by background and firmly believe that an educational approach that prioritises wellbeing and positive relationships with others creates the best learning opportunities for all. I became a governor in order to support and promote this approach and be a part of the wonderful community at LOSINS.
Jennifer Mehta
Parent Governor
Hi Im Jennifer. I am a mum to two children - one currently at the school and one who has been through the school and now attends Lee Juniors. I currently serve as a Training Officer in the Royal Navy and I'm a trained teacher. Through my work I have gained experience in training policy, strategy, management and resourcing and currently developing the Royal Navy’s new Neurodiversity Policy which is rewarding and fascinating.
I became a Parent Governor to support the wonderful work that takes place within our school. LOSINS is such a fundamental part of our local community and I hope I can use some of my experience to support the amazing teachers help our children LEAP to success in Lee and beyond!
Luke Bradley
Parent Governor
Rebecca Latham
Parent Governor
Hi, I'm Becky, parent to a child in the school.
I work as part of the Children's Therapies Team as speech and language therapist for the NHS.
I believe communication skills are fundamental to education and wellbeing. I became a parent governor to help school with the wonderful work they do to support our children
Hello, my name is Jody Moss and I'm a parent governor. My eldest daughter joined Lee Infants in 2021 and my youngest daughter will hopefully start in 2025. I am an Air Traffic Controller at the NATS centre at Swanwick. The school is such an important part of the community and I have been so impressed with their ethos and care of the children. I became a governor to help to maintain that passion and support the school in achieving their goals.
