Lee-on-the-SolentInfant and Nursery School
LEAP to success at Lee!
Welcome from the Governors of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School
Please find below details of how our governing body is structured, what our roles and responsibilities are and the names and terms of appointment for each Governor.
The governing body of the school works with the Headteacher to ensure that all children are given the best opportunities while in our school. The governors work to ensure there is strategic leadership, robust accountability and good oversight of the school’s educational and financial performance.
Governors visit the school regularly, examine progress and attainment data, review the school budget and make sure the school is working towards its current objectives in the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
The full governing body (FGB) meet at least twice per term. Responsibility for specific areas is delegated to committees or individual governors. Governor committees include Headteacher Performance Management, Pay Committee, Resources Committee and Curriculum Committee.
Governors are recruited from the parents of children in our school, and from the wider community. We aim to have a broad range of expertise, skills, and experience among the governing body, so that together we can support and challenge the school. Governors attend training to up to date with current legislation around governance.
The role of the governors is strictly strategic, and the day-to-day management of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher and the school’s Senior Leadership Team. However, the governors are keen to be involved in the life of the school and are often in attendance at school events.
If you are interested in investing in your child’s education by joining the governors, the Chair of Governors would be glad to speak with you about the role in greater depth. You can contact the Chair via the school office.
We would also encourage you to support the school and your children’s education in other ways. Attending events or becoming involved with FLINS (Friends of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School) will help to model being Part of the Community, one of our LEAP Values.
Paul Chamberlain
Vice Chair of Governors - (Acting Chair)
I’m Paul Chamberlain, the local vicar. I’m the Vice-Chair of Governors at the Infant School, and an Associate Governor at the Junior School! I’m on both governing bodies as part of a plan to help the schools work more closely together, part of which has a governor from each school being an Associate Governor at the other. I’ve been a school governor in Lee for over four years, and I’m a parent at the Junior School as well. I’m a governor because I want the children of our town to have the best education they can, and governors play an important role in helping our schools make this happen.
Glen O’Nion
Associate Governor
I’m Glen O’Nion and have 2 children that go to the school. I’m a parent governor but specialise in finance. I’m chair of the resources committee and a member of the FGB. The lee-on-the-Solent community means the world to me so I’m keen to help the children get the best possible start to their lives in this great town
Jo Drew
SEND Governor
I am Jo Drew. I moved into the area 20 months ago after living in London for 40 years. I have been a Governor since March 2018 and I am a member of the Resources and Pay Committees. I think that a good education gives children the best start in life and that school governors have a vital role to play in that education.
Matt Cumming
Safeguarding Governor
I’m Matt Cumming and I am a parent at the Infant School. I have been a governor for just over 2 years and I have recently taken on the role as Safeguarding Governor. I am a governor because I want mine and other children in the area to receive the best possible early education possible. I strive to achieve this working alongside the other governors and the school team.
Lisa Bowling
Parent Governor
I'm Lisa Bowling and a parent governor. I currently have a daughter who is in YR. My background is Retail Operations, training and management. I have joined the governors as I want to help support our local community school, in providing the best education possible for our children. I am passionate about everyone recognising and reaching their potential, and hope that working alongside the other governors and school team, that I can help support that in some way
Chriss Mensah
Parent Governor
(Governor responsible for staff well-being)
I am Chriss Mensah, a parent Governor. I have been in the Army for 12 years and currently serving as a Registered Nurse. I am passionate about training. I volunteered to be a governor because I would like to actively contribute to my community in the area of education. I would like my child and other children to have an excellent foundation to set them up for their future. Hence, working together with the school management and other governors will be a great way forward towards this desire.
Stuart Hill
Co-opted governor
My name is Stuart Hill and I joined the governing body in November 2019 as a Co-opted governor. I have a background in engineering and have worked in the public sector for 25 years doing a multitude of different jobs including project and programme management, quality, HR and safety, Customer account management and continual improvement. I thought that my broad range of skills could be useful in a school setting and I was keen to give something back to the community which is why I applied to become a governor.
