Lee-on-the-SolentInfant and Nursery School

LEAP to success at Lee!

Governors

Welcome from the Governors of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School

Please find below details of how our governing body is structured, what our roles and responsibilities are and the names and terms of appointment for each Governor.

The governing body of the school works with the Headteacher to ensure that all children are given the best opportunities while in our school.  The governors work to ensure there is strategic leadership, robust accountability and good oversight of the school’s educational and financial performance.

Governors visit the school regularly, examine progress and attainment data, review the school budget and make sure the school is working towards its current objectives in the School Improvement Plan (SIP).

The full governing body (FGB) meet at least twice per term. Responsibility for specific areas is delegated to committees or individual governors. Governor committees include Headteacher Performance Management, Pay Committee, Resources Committee and Curriculum Committee.

Governors are recruited from the parents of children in our school, and from the wider community.  We aim to have a broad range of expertise, skills, and experience among the governing body, so that together we can support and challenge the school.  Governors attend training to up to date with current legislation around governance.

The role of the governors is strictly strategic, and the day-to-day management of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher and the school’s Senior Leadership Team. However, the governors are keen to be involved in the life of the school and are often in attendance at school events.

If you are interested in investing in your child’s education by joining the governors, the Chair of Governors would be glad to speak with you about the role in greater depth. You can contact the Chair via the school office.

We would also encourage you to support the school and your children’s education in other ways. Attending events or becoming involved with FLINS (Friends of Lee-on-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School) will help to model being Part of the Community, one of our LEAP Values.

MEET THE GOVERNORS
Picture 1

SIMON TRIPP

Chair of Governors

My name is Simon Tripp and I've been a Royal Marines Musician for 30 years; the last 11 years of which as a Bandmaster. I’ve been a Co-opted Governor at Lee-on-the-Solent Infant & Nursey School for nearly four years now, and in December 2018 I became Chair of Governors. In my time as a governor I have been involved with Head Teacher Performance Management, the Pay Committee and the Finance & Resources Committee. I chose to be a governor because I want to play a part in my local community and support the School in delivering the best education possible to the children of our town - I also have a daughter in year 2

Paul Chamberlain

Vice Chair of Governors

I’m Paul Chamberlain, the local vicar. I’m the Vice-Chair of Governors at the Infant School, and an Associate Governor at the Junior School! I’m on both governing bodies as part of a plan to help the schools work more closely together, part of which has a governor from each school being an Associate Governor at the other. I’ve been a school governor in Lee for over four years, and I’m a parent at the Junior School as well. I’m a governor because I want the children of our town to have the best education they can, and governors play an important role in helping our schools make this happen.

Glen O’Nion

I’m Glen O’Nion and have 2 children that go to the school. I’m a parent governor but specialise in finance. I’m chair of the resources committee and a member of the FGB. The lee-on-the-Solent community means the world to me so I’m keen to help the children get the best possible start to their lives in this great town

Jo Drew

SEND Governor

I am Jo Drew.  I moved into the area 20 months ago after living in London for 40 years. I have been a Governor since March 2018 and I have just taken on the responsibility for SEND children. I think that a good education gives children the best start in life and that school governors have a vital role to play in that education.

Michelle Williams

Training Liaison Governor

I’m Michelle Williams, a parent Governor. I currently have a son in Year 2. My background is in Education and I currently work for an Education Charity across the South of England. I am the Development and Training Governor and sit on the Curriculum Committee. I am passionate about all children having the right to a good education and that is why I wanted to be a Governor.

Matt Cumming

Safeguarding Governor

I’m Matt Cumming and I am a parent at the Infant School. I have been a governor for just over 2 years and I have recently taken on the role as Safeguarding Governor. I am a governor because I want mine and other children in the area to receive the best possible early education possible. I strive to achieve this working alongside the other governors and the school team.

Rebecca Bryant

Co-opted Governor

My name is Rebecca Bryant and I have been a Co-opted Governor since December 2018, responsible for SEND.  I also have a daughter in the nursery.

I am a special educational needs teacher and am passionate about quality education for all children. I wanted to be a Governor to help support my children's and our local community school, sharing my expertise in SEND to help support the school in providing all children with a fantastic first experience of education from the very start.

Natalie Ferrero

Parent Governor

I am parents of twins currently in year 2 and volunteer frequently with school activities.  I see the wonderful relationships between the children and their teachers and the joy the teachers have in providing the best possible learning environment, whilst having fun themselves.  This experience inspired me to contribute as a governor, with particular interest in communicating the schools successes with all parents.  I am currently a SAHM, but have a background in marine biology research, with experience in amongst other things, project development and project management, data analysis and dissemination, and health and safety.  I am also the Honorary Secretary of a small natural history publishing charity.
